Energy Management Solutions

Managing energy demand and consumption is critical for companies embarking on a sustainability plan. GDF SUEZ Energy Resources provides Demand Response (DR) services to temporarily reduce power consumption and soon will be providing Energy Efficiency services to selected markets.

Demand Response

Demand Response (DR) refers to programs that provide companies with cash payments for the ability to temporarily reduce their non-essential power usage, either in response to high wholesale prices or extreme stress on the grid. DR programs help defer expensive generation and transmission upgrades and help lower power prices during peak periods of use.

DR is the most efficient and economical alternative to new power plants, and fits nicely with any sustainability plan. After all, the cleanest energy is that which is not produced.

GDF SUEZ Energy Resources has a variety of Demand Response Programs, depending upon where you are located, and how much of your electric load you are able to curtail as called upon.

GDF SUEZ recently announced an alliance with Comverge, Inc., a leading clean energy company, to provide commercial and industrial customers with Demand Response services that can help facilitate curtailed energy usage and lower total energy costs.  Under the alliance agreement, Comverge will provide logistical, technical, and sales support for GDF SUEZ customers in the ERCOT, NEPOOL, NYISO, and PJM markets.

A Best-in-Class provder, Comverge's product offerings include both temporary and permanent load reduction alternatives.  Temporary load reduction products lower a customer's energy load during peak demand hours or in the event of a grid emergency by temporarily curtailing the cuustomer's load or using standby generators.  Permanent load reduction products provide long-term efficiency improvements from helping to lower electricity bills and alleviate stress on the grid.

Demand Response is the temporary reduction of peak energy usage for a defined duration. Curtailment events are triggered by either reliability concerns or high prices. The above load profile graph shows the normal daily usage pattern of a building. When a curtailment event is called, the customer reduces usage and is paid for the reduction. The area in green represents the economic benefit the building operations receive for curtailing load.
